once upon a time
there was a little girl
got down on her little knees
in the dark with no one to care
folded up her little hands
and she said a prayer

Once upon a time
there was a little girl
wiped the tears from her eyes
got down one last time
folded up her little hands
and she said a prayer

Little girl grew up
Put her heart on a shelf
Built her walls up
Trying to protect herself
Nearly forgetting the little girl
And her little prayer

Until you said goodbye
And I came to realize
Standing right in front of me
looking into my eyes
Was the answer to a little girl
And her little prayer
